Anyone planning a wedding knows that many details are entailed, but the 2020 emerging trend actually includes plenty of “deets” and lots of “tails”. More and more brides and grooms are choosing to have their beloved four-legged friends as part of their special day. However, there are a few items needing consideration to ensure a “paws-itively” perfect celebration.

Smooches and Pooches

First things first, before you walk down the aisle to say, “I Do”, it is imperative to check with your venue to be sure animals (other than service animals) are allowed on-site. Many venues are comfortable having pets these days but, be prepared as some may charge a small fee.

Heads or Tails

As you are making your guest list and creating your bridal party, decide if having your pet is a smart choice. Inquire if anyone has allergies or fears. Although it is your big day, it is always nice to think about the comfort of your guests. Some couples note on their invitation that a “special appearance” by their “four-legged child” will be made during the ceremony. This will alert those ahead of time to prevent any issues. Also, having a designated person to take care of the pet is a great idea.

Bark or Bite

As much as you would love to have your furry friend by your side, keep in mind their personality and temperament. Are they friendly and loving? Are they aggressive, nervous, or noisy? Will they behave in an unfamiliar environment with a large crowd?  Animals have keen senses and may get overwhelmed by loud noises such as the band’s soundcheck. Only you know your pup’s disposition best, so keep these factors in mind.

Bad to the Bone

The bride is not the only one needing a little bling. Décor companies can always assist with florals for the collar and leash to add a pop of color and coordinate with the bridal party. Be sure to discuss this with your florist during your consultation.

Pawprints

If you decide it is not a good idea to have your canine walk down the aisle, consider just taking photographs prior to the big event. This is a win-win for everyone and will make an adorable keepsake.

No bones about it, by following the guidelines mentioned above a memorable day will be had by all.

Pets are part of the family and should be included only if it makes sense.
